छलपूर्ण सूचकांकों को जारी रखने की कोशिश औद्योगिक मजदूरों के महंगाई भत्ते पर खुला हमला
भारत सरकार ने उपभोक्ता मूल्य सूचकांक को 1982=100 के आधार पर एक नयी श्रृंखला लागू करने का फैसला किया है। उन लाखों मज़दूरों पर जिनका महंगाई भत्ता मूल्य से जुड़ा है इसका खतरनाक असर पड़ेगा। यदि भारत सरकार मजदूर वर्ग पर मूल्य सूचकांक की नयी श्रृंखला थोपने में कामयाब हो जाती है तो भविष्य में मजदूरों को मिलने वाले महंगाई भत्ते में काफी कमी आएगी।
केंद्रीय श्रम मंत्रालय ने नयी दिल्ले में 8 जनवरी 1987 को केंद्रीय टेड यूनियनों के साथ एक बैठक आयोजित की। इसमें सभी टेड यूनियनों ने नयी श्रृंखला को एकतरफा लागू करने का विरोध किया। टेड यूनियनों ने मूल्य सूचकांक निर्धारित करने के लिए अपनाए गये तरीके के गैर विज्ञानिक चरित्र पर अपने शक जाहिर किये।

New Consumer Price Index Series (1982=100)
The attempt to persist with flawed indices is an open attack on the dearness allowance of industrial workers.
The Government of India has decided to implement a new Consumer Price Index series with the base year 1982=100. This will have a detrimental impact on the millions of workers whose dearness allowance is linked to price levels. If the Government of India succeeds in imposing this new price index series on the working class, the dearness allowance received by workers in the future will be significantly reduced.
The Union Ministry of Labour convened a meeting with central trade unions in New Delhi on January 8, 1987. All the trade unions opposed the unilateral implementation of the new series. They expressed reservations regarding the unscientific nature of the methodology adopted to determine the price index.
