| dc.description.abstract | V. J. K. Nair was born in 1938. A veteran leader of the working class movement in Karnataka and India, he served as General Secretary and President of the CITU Karnataka state committee, Vice President of the CITU, CPI(M) Karnataka State Secretary and a Central Committee member. He joined the public sector Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) in Bangalore in January 1958 at the age of 20. He entered as a typist, a white-collar worker, transformed himself into a blue-collar worker, and was dismissed for participating in a strike in 1967. He became a full-time worker of the Bharat Electronics Employees' Union (BEEU) and eventually dedicated nearly six decades of his life as a full-time activist of CITU and the CPI(M).
